大東“什麼芬‘沙彌尾’?"
大東“放一堂戒，要選出一個沙彌頭，一個沙彌尾。沙彌頭要老成，要會念很多經。沙彌尾要年倾，聰明，相貌好。”大東“當了沙彌尾跟別的和尚有什麼不同？”
大東“沙彌頭，沙彌尾，將來都能當方丈。現在的方丈退居了，就當。石橋原來就是沙彌尾。”大東"Will you be a tail-Samir?"大東"I don't know yet."

大東劃了一氣，小英子說：“你不要當方丈！”大東“好，不當。”
大東“你也不要當沙彌尾！”
大東“好，不當。”
大東又劃了一氣，看見那一片蘆花艘子了。
大東小英子忽然把槳放下，走到船尾，趴在明子的耳朵旁邊，小聲地說：“我給你當老婆，你要不要？”大東明子眼睛鼓得大大的。
大東“你說話呀！”
大東明子說：“恩。”
大東“什麼芬‘恩’呀！要不要，要不要？”
大東"Yes, I want you!" he shouted.大東"What are you shouting for?"大東"I want you!" he said again in a low voice.大東"Row quickly!"
